The authorities have started reopening readymade garment factories in Ashulia. But production at 49 factories remained suspended.

Of the 49, 36 factories are closed indefinitely, while 13 have declared general holidays.

Superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1 Md Sarwar Alam confirmed the development.
Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), at a rally in Ashulia's Jamgora on Friday urged the workers to join the work.

Amid the workers' unrest in the Ashulia industrial area due to various worker demands, the authorities shut the factories one after another to avert violence.
