Kazipara metro rail station will be reopened soon after the remaining repair works.

Besides, an announcement is in the offing within several days for operation of metro rail services on Fridays.
Sources at the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) said the repair works began at Kazipara Station last week, and the authorities carried out a technical test there on Saturday.

The announcement to resume operation of Kazipara metro station is likely to be made on Wednesday. Apart from it, an announcement is in the offing on that day for operation of metro rail services on Fridays.

However, the Mirpur-10 Station will take more time to be repaired. They are trying to complete the repair works as quickly as possible.

About metro rail operations on Friday, sources at the DMTCL said the authorities have already finalised a roster for operating metro rail on the weekend, and an announcement is in the offing soon.

It is learnt that various technical aspects of reopening Kazipara metro station were examined on Saturday, while a roster (duties of employees) for operating metro rail on Fridays has already been finalised.

After taking over the responsibility, the DMTCL's new managing director Mohammad Abdur Rouf has laid emphasis on reopening Kazipara station soon and operating metro rail on Fridays.

The government has recently removed MAN Siddque from the post of managing director of the DMTCL and replaced him with Mohammad Abdur Rouf.

Assuming the position, Mohammad Abdur Rouf put utmost efforts restore Kazipara Station and begin Friday services.

Abdur Rouf said the Kazipara Station is being repaired using local machinery as well as equipment. Their target is to provide quick relief to passengers. Therefore, they have adopted an affordable yet safe maintenance approach.

The DMTCL MD also said he, along with a technical team and Japanese consultants, has been working on reopening the Kazipara Station.

Both Mirpur-10 and Kazipara stations were closed following a fire at the Mirpur-10 police box and vandalism during quota reform movement in the third week of July. Later, the authorities halted the metro rail service completely.

Former DMTCL managing director MAN Siddique visited the stations on July 20 and said it could take up to a year to repair the damage. The DMTCL then estimated the repair cost would amount to Tk 3.5 billion.

After the fall of Sheikh Hasina government, the same authorities estimated that the cost will be around Tk 500 million and said the previous figure was a politically motivated one.
