A youth was allegedly hacked to death by his friend at Pirganj upazila in Thakurgaon district on Saturday morning over a trivial matter.
The deceased was identified as Rasel, son of Anisur Rahman, a resident of Kakdob village at Sadar upazila in the district.
Shahed Hasan, the deceased's friend, surrendered to the police station after admitting his involvement in the incident.
Police said that Shahed and Rasel went to a garden for taking drug after Friday evening. At that time, they locked in an altercation over a trivial matter. Then, Shahed hacked Rasel with a machete, leaving him dead on the spot.
On Saturday morning, a farmer spotted the body and informed the police.
On information, police recovered the body, said Khairul Anam, officer-in-charge of Pirganj Police Station.
The detained Shahed has been admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospita for treatment, the OC added.
