Nine people murdered in eight districts

Nine people including two women and a minor girl have been murdered in separate incidents in eight districts - Naogaon, Thakurgaon, Kushtia, Dhaka, Bogura, Gopalganj, Khulna and Narayanganj, in recent times. 

MANDA, NAOGAON: A woman was beaten to death by her husband in Manda Upazila of the district on Saturday.

The incident took in Chouja Uttarpara Village under Tetulia Union of the upazila at noon.

The deceased was identified as Nais Parvin, 28, wife of Ekramul Haque and mother of a child. She lived along with her husband in the same village.

Following the incident, the accused Ekramul Haque and his brother Abdul Malek went into hiding.

Kafil Uddin Molla, father of the deceased, said that Parvin and Ekramul have been married for 11 years, but their relationship had been strained for several years due to family disputes. Ekram had physically abused Parvin on multiple occasions. 

"As a sequel to it, Ekram along with his family members beat my daughter to death. I want exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing," alleged the deceased's father.

Meanwhile, neighbours claimed that Ekram locked into a fight with Parvin over a trivial matter and beat up her mercilessly at noon. Later on, Parvin succumbed to her injuries on the way to a hospital.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manda Police Station (PS) Mozammel Haque Kazi confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this connection.

THAKURGAON: A youth was allegedly hacked to death by his friend in Pirganj Upazila of the district on Saturday morning over a trivial matter.

The deceased was identified as Rasel, son of Anisur Rahman, a resident of Kakdob Village under Sadar Upazila in the district.

Shahed Hasan, the deceased's friend, surrendered to the Pirganj PS after admitting his involvement in the incident. 

Police sources said that Shahed and Rasel went to a garden for taking drugs on Friday evening. At that time, they locked in an altercation over a trivial matter. Then, Shahed hacked Rasel with a machete, leaving him dead on the spot. 

On Saturday morning, a farmer spotted the body of Rasel and informed the police.

On information, police recovered the body from the scene.

Pirganj PS OC Khairul Anam confirmed the incident, adding that detained Shahed has been admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital for treatment.

DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA: A college student, who was injured in a clash between two groups at a picnic in Daulatpur Upazila of the district on August 30, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Rajshahi on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Rabbi Hossain, 20, son of Moslem Uddin, a resident of Sonaikundi Uttarpara area under the upazila. He was an intermediate second year student of a local college.

Police and local sources said that a clash broke out between the groups over a trivial matter during the picnic on August 30, which left Rabbi critically injured.

Initially he was admitted to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex and later, shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) when his condition worsened.

Later on, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the RMCH on Friday night.

Daulatpur PS OC Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the death, saying that the deceased's family filed a case accusing seven people a day after the clash.

No one has been arrested in this connection so far, the OC added.

SAVAR, DHAKA: A youth was hacked to death reportedly while trying to save his younger brother from an attack by a juvenile gang in Ashulia of the district on Friday night. 

The incident took place in Kathalbagan Balur Math area in Dendabor area of Ashulia at around 9 pm.

The deceased was identified as Sulaiman, 18, hailed from Dimla Upazila in Nilphamari District. He worked at a local fabric factory living with his family in a rented house in Ashulia. 

According to the family members, Sulaiman's younger brother Selim got into a dispute while playing with other teenagers on Friday evening. The altercation led to Selim being beaten and detained by the juvenile group. 

When Sulaiman arrived to intervene, the gang members also attacked him, leaving him severely injured. He was, later, pronounced dead at Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex.

Sulaiman's father Abdul Latif demanded justice stating that his sons were not involved in any local gangs and that the attack was unprovoked. 

Local residents reported that the juvenile gang had re-emerged after a period of inactivity in the industrial zone of Ashulia. They have called for immediate action to control the growing influence of these gangs.

Ashulia PS Sub-Inspector (SI) Gias Uddin confirmed that a murder case is being prepared and that several individuals linked to the attack have been identified. 

The investigation is going on and efforts are being made to arrest those involved, the SI added.

BOGURA: A teenage boy was killed in a clash between two groups while playing a football match in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday.

The incident took place on Koichar Madrasa Field of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Md Riad, son of late Tara Mia of the area. He used to work in a printing press factory in the district town. 

Quoting locals, Bogura Sadar PS OC Saihan Oliullah said that two groups were playing a football match on Koichar Madrasa Field in the afternoon. At one stage, a clash broke out between them, which left Riad critical injured.

Locals then rescued Riad in the evening and took him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH). 

Later on, he succumbed to his injuries at the SZRMCH at around 9 pm while undergoing treatment.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the SZRMCH morgue for an autopsy.

However, legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

GOPALGANJ: A central leader of Bangladesh Swechasebak Dal was killed in a clash in the district on Friday afternoon.

Deceased Shawkat Ali Didar was the sports secretary of Central Bangladesh Swechasebak Dal.

Two individuals were arrested in connection with the killing and subsequently sent to jail on Saturday.

The arrested are Alimuzzaman Chowdhury, 50, and Cesar Sheikh, 42, residents of Ghonapara in Sadar Upazila.

Confirming the matter, Gopalganj Sadar PS OC Md Anisur Rahman said that the arrests were made on suspicion of their involvement in the incident and both were sent to jail following a court order. 

Earlier, on Friday evening, Shawkat Ali Didar was killed during a clash between the activists of BNP and Awami League (AL). The clash erupted at Ghonapara as BNP members, returning from a street rally in Bedgram, were accused of tearing down banners and festoons of the AL. This led to a violent altercation, involving chase and counter-chase between the two groups.

The clashes left Shawkat Ali Didar dead on the spot and over 40 others including Central Bangladesh Swechasebak Dal President SM Jilani and his wife Gopalganj District Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal President Rowshan Ara Ratna were injured, the OC added.

KHULNA: An elderly woman was killed by miscreants at her residence in Rupsha Upazila of the district on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Sayeda Gulfar Nahar Setara, 65, wife of late Shahidul Sheikh, a resident of Naihati Godown intersection area under the upazila.

Rupsha PS OC Enamul Haque said that Setara used to live alone in the house as her husband Shahidul, a former government employee, died four months back and her lone son Raihan Sheikh, an employee of income tax, lives in Dhaka.

Her housemaid Shahinur saw the blood-stained body of Setara with its legs tied up on the floor of her bedroom in the house on Friday morning and screamed.

Hearing her scream, local people rushed in and informed the matter to police.

Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

The body bore an injury marks on its head.

Police suspected that a group of robbers might have entered the house of Setara on Thursday night and killed her before looting valuables.

However, the law enforcers are investigating the matter and trying to detain those involved in the killing, the OC added.

NARAYANGANJ: A man hacked his wife and minor daughter in Rupganj Upazila of the district recently.

The deceased were identified as Roksana Begum, 30, wife of Md Nunuzzaman Anis, and their daughter Jannat, 5, residents of Tetlab area in the upazila.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), however, arrested accused Anis, 36, son of Manik Bepari of Damura area in Wazirpur Upazila of Barishal, from Angaria area of Dumki in Patuakhali in this connection. 

It was known that after killing wife and daughter, Anis went into hiding.

Roksana's father lodged a murder case with Rupganj PS in this regard. 

RAB-11 Deputy Director Major Anabil Imam confirmed the matter.
