Female tourist found hanging at Kuakata hotel

KALAPARA, PATUAKHALI, Sept 15: A female tourist was found hanging in a room at a hotel of Kuakata in Kalapara Upazila of the district on Saturday. 

The incident occurred in room no. 501 of Hotel Sea Beach Inn of Kuakata at noon.
The deceased was identified as Afroza Akter Ritu, 19, daughter of Amir Hossain, hailed from Dharmatola under Kotwali Police Station (PS) in Jashore. 

Shortly after the discovery of her body, locals detained her husband and his friends, who were with her at that time, as they attempted to flee.

According to police and hotel staffs, the group, consisting of two men and two women, had arrived in the hotel on Friday and rented two connecting rooms. After having breakfast on Saturday morning, a dispute broke out among them. 

Ritu reportedly locked herself in a room and later, was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a scarf. Hotel management and staff broke into the room and recovered her body.

Among those taken into custody are the deceased's husband Isha Mir, 21, hails from Shankarpur in Jashore, his friend Kapil Chandra Saha, 21, from Barandipara, and Ritu's younger sister Akhi Akter, 17.

Locals said that they saw two men running down the street and alerted hotel staff, who chased and caught them. They were then handed over to the hotel authorities.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mahipur PS Anwar Hossain Talukder confirmed that the police recovered the body. 

Authorities are contacting the family and the three individuals who were with the deceased have been taken into custody for questioning, the OC added.
