Md Sabbir, who was injured in the anti-discrimination student movement, passed away on Saturday morning. He was 17.

Sabbir was the son of late Mohammad Alamgir Mia of Dakshin Vinglabari Village under Debidwar Upazila in Cumilla.

He was injured in police firing in Debidwar on August 5.

After receiving treatment in hospital for more than a month, he returned home on Friday but died at his residence at around 9:30 am on Saturday.

Sabbir's family sources said that students brought out a joyous procession in Devidwar Upazila after the fall of Dictator Sheikh Hasina through the anti-discriminatory student movement on August 5.

At one state, some miscreants attacked the police station (PS) and set fire to police vehicle. They also attacked the police, the law enforcers also retaliated and around 60 students were injured in police firing. At that time, Sabbir received bullet injuries in his head.

Locals then rescued him and took to the Devidwar Upazila Health Complex. But, the on-duty doctor shifted Sabbir to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment.

After more than a month of treatment, Sabbir returned home on Friday. But on Saturday morning, he breathed his last.

Sabbir's mother Rina Begum said that she brought her son home on Friday after more than a month of treatment at the DMCH. But on Saturday morning, Sabbir suddenly felt severe body pain and died, she added.

She further said that Sabbir quitted his study and started running CNG auto-rickshaw to carry the responsibility of their family as his father died two years back.

Debidwar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nigar Sultana said that the administration is on the side of Sabbir's family.    —BSS
