All gates of Kaptai Dam closed after two days

The 16 sluice gates of the Kaptai Karnaphuli Hydro Power Plant, which were reopened on Saturday, have been closed as water level receded.

Hydro Power Plant control room sources confirmed this on Monday (September 16) morning.

On Saturday evening, the 16 gates were opened by six inches. It discharges 9,000 cusecs of water per second into the Karnaphuli River.

A total of 216MW of electricity is being produced by keeping five units of the power plant operational, even though the gates have been closed.
Karnaphuli Hydropower Plant Manager ATM Abduzzaher confirmed the development on Monday morning, adding that water levels in Kaptai Lake has receded as there is no rain.
