A Bangladeshi tourist from Lalmonirhat district has been detained and had his tourist visa revoked by Indian authorities after posting anti-India comments on social media during his visit.

The incident was confirmed by Ahsan Habib, the head of immigration police at Burimari land port, on Monday.

The victim Alamgir Sheikh, 34, a resident of Jumma Para under Patgram upazila in Lalmonirhat, entered India on a tourist visa on September 3. During his stay, he posted controversial statements on social media, including a live video from the Taj Mahal in Agra, where he made remarks that caught the attention of Indian security officials.

In his posts, Sheikh acknowledged India's role in Bangladesh's liberation in 1971 but went on to express divisive sentiments, stating, "We, the people of Bangladesh, want to divide India. Long live Manipur. I want my Bengal back. West Bengal, Tripura, Assam should be returned to Bangladesh."

Indian security officials identified Sheikh through his social media activity and detained him at the Changrabandha immigration checkpoint on Sunday evening. Following an interrogation, Indian authorities canceled his visa and handed him over to the Burimari immigration police in Bangladesh.
This incident underscores the growing vigilance of authorities regarding politically sensitive online activity, particularly by foreign nationals.
