9 killed, 33 injured in road mishaps

Nine people including a woman have been killed and at least 33 others injured in separate road accidents in eight districts - Sherpur, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Joypurhat, Habiganj, Noakhali, Sirajganj and Kishoreganj, in three days. 
SHERPUR: A female cleaner was killed after being hit by a bus in Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday. 
The accident took place in Sherpur Polytechnic Institute area on the Dhaka-Sherpur highway under Bhatsala Union of the upazila in the evening. 
The deceased was identified as Sufia Begum, 40, hailed from Netrakona District. She was a cleaner of the Sherpur Polytechnic Institute. 
Police and local sources said that a bus of 'Sonar Bangla Paribahan' hit Sufia Begum while she was crossing the road in Sherpur Polytechnic Institute area in the evening, which left her critically injured. 
Locals then rescued the injured and took her to a local hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the woman dead. 
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Sadar Police Station (PS) Md Jahangir Alam confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard. 
NARAYANGANJ: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured in a road accident in the district on Monday afternoon.
The accident took place in Jangal area on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at around 4 pm.
The identities of the deceased, aged about 35, and the injured could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, Kanchpur Highway PS OC Rezaul Haque said that two men were heading towards Cumilla in the afternoon riding on a motorcycle. On the way, the motorcycle hit a road divider after losing its control over the steering while taking a u-tern in Jangal area at around 4 pm, which left the driver of the motorcycle dead on the spot and the pillion rider critically injured.
Being informed, police rushed to the scene and recovered the body.
The body of the deceased was, later, sent to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. 
The injured person was rescued and admitted to a hospital.
However, the law enforcers are trying to identify the deceased and necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added. 
GAFARGAON, MYMENSINGH: Two friends were killed in a collision between an ambulance and a motorbike in Gafargaon Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Charipara Bottala area on the Gafargaon-Mymensingh KBI road under Barbaria Union of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Alfaz Uddin, 20, son of Riaz Uddin, a resident of Bottala area in the upazila, and Akash, 18, son of Abdul Qadir of the same area.
Quoting locals, Gafargaon PS OC Shibirul Islam said that the two friends were riding on a motorbike on the Gafargaon-Mymensingh KBI road. At one stage, an ambulance collided head-on with their motorcycle in Charipara Bottala area, which left Alfaz dead on the spot and Akash critically injured.
Injured Akash was then rescued by locals and taken to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Dr Tushar, an attending doctor of the health complex, confirmed his death.
Being informed, police recovered the bodies of the deceased. 
However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
JOYPURHAT: At least 12 passengers were injured as a bus fell in a roadside ditch after losing its control over the steering in Sadar Upazila of the district on Sunday.
The accident took place in Bankhur area on the Joypurhat-Panchbibi road under the upazila at around 11:30 am.
Police and local sources said that a Hili-bound passenger-laden bus from Joypurhat fell in a roadside ditch after losing its control over the steering in Bankhur area of the upazila, which left at least 12 passengers of the bus injured.
On information, police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and rescued the injured people. 
The injured people were then admitted to Joypurhat Adhunik Sadar Hospital. 
Joypurhat Sadar PS OC Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident.
CHUNARUGHAT, HABIGANJ: Two motorcyclists including a local leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) were killed in a road accident in Chunarughat Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The accident took place in Chandrichara Tea Garden area of the upazila at around 10 pm.
The deceased were identified as Hafiz Sarkar, son of Moulad Mia, hailed from Sudiakhala Village under Shayestaganj Upazila in the district, and Mostafizur Rahman, son of Kimmat Ali of Talugarai Village in the same upazila. Hafiz served as a senior joint convenor of Shayestaganj Municipality Unit of the JCD.
Quoting eyewitnesses and locals, police said that Hafiz and Mustafizur went to visit the Chandrichara Tea Garden on Saturday night. On the way back to home, the motorcycle driver lost control over the bike and fell on the road at around 10 pm. At that time, a truck ran over them from behind, which left both of them dead on the spot. 
Being informed, police recovered the bodies and handed those over to the families of the deceased without autopsies as there was no complaint lodged by them.
The truck fled the scene immediately after the accident, said police sources.
Chunarughat PS OC Hillol Roy confirmed the incident, adding that and no case has been filed with the PS in this regard.
NOAKHALI: A young man was killed after a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit a roadside tree after losing its control over the steering in Hatiya Upazila of the district on Saturday night. 
The accident took place at around 8 pm on the west side road of Sagoria Bazar in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Khairul Mostafa, 27, son of late Omar Faruque, a resident of Ward No. 1 under Jahajmara Union in the upazila. 
Local sources said that a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit a roadside tree after losing its control over the steering in the area at night, which left the auto-rickshaw passenger Khairul critically injured. 
Later on, he was rescued by the locals and taken to Hatiya Upazila Health Complex first, and later, transferred to Noakhali Fan Care Hospital for better treatment. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital about 2:45 am. 
Hatiya PS Inspector Md Moniruzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
SIRAJGANJ: At least 20 people were injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The accident took place in Chhongachha Bazar area on the Sirajganj-Kazipur regional road under the upazila at around 3 pm. 
The identities of the injured people could not be known immediately. 
Of them, the conditions of five were stated to be critical. 
Quoting locals, Sirajganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Officer Md Ataur Rahman said that a bus of 'Hridoy Enterprise' with about 50 passengers on its board was heading towards Kazipur Upazila from Sirajganj District town on Saturday afternoon. On the way, the bus fell in a roadside ditch in Chhongachha Bazar area of the upazila at around 3 pm after losing its control over the steering while giving side to a CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. At least 20 passengers of the bus were injured at that time. 
On information, Fire Service personnel with the help of local people rushed to the scene and rescued the injured passengers.
Later on, the injured people were admitted to Sirajganj 250-bed Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital Hospital and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura. 
Of the injured, five people were in critical condition, the Fire Service official added.
Sirajganj Sadar PS OC Md Humayun Kabir confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
KISHOREGANJ: Two teenage boys were killed in a road accident in Bhairab Upazila of the district on Friday.
The accident took place in Shambupur area on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab regional highway under the upazila in the evening.
The deceased were identified as Sufal, 14, son of Swapon Mia, a resident of Bhairabpur Uttarpara Village, and Munna, 15, son of Ataullah Mia, a resident of Muslimer Mor area in the upazila.
Police and local sources said that Sufal and Munna were riding on a motorcycle in the evening. At one stage, a speedy oil tanker coming from the opposite direction hit their motorcycle in Shambupur area on the Kishoreganj-Bhairab regional highway of the upazila, which left the two teenagers dead on the spot.
Being informed, police have recovered the bodies and sent those to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
 Bhairab Model PS OC Saju Mia confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this regard.
