Urging all people concerned to abstain from spreading rumours on mass wedding, Dhaka University authorities on Tuesday said that they did not give approval to anyone to organise mass wedding on the campus.

"News, being circulated on some media outlets and social media, said that preparation is underway to hold a mass wedding at different dormitories of the university... But we have not been informed about this initiative, and no permission was granted for such an event," said a press release signed by Md Rafiqul Islam, deputy director of DU Public Relations Office.

The university has no scope to get involved with such kinds of social functions as per the rules and regulations of the university and considering the current overall situation of the country," said the press release.

If anyone attempted to organise such an event, it was their personal initiative, it added.

Terming the university's role as an academic and learning centre, the university urged all to refrain from spreading such types of rumor on media outlets and social platforms.    —BSS
