Six die of dengue in a day

Six people died of dengue while 865 were hospitalized with the mosquito-borne disease across the country in the last 24 hours till Wednesday morning.

This is the highest number of single-day dengue deaths this year, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). On Tuesday (September 17) five patients were reported to have died from dengue.

With the update, this year, the total number of cases rose to 21, 079 while 119 deaths from dengue disease were reported since January 1, 2024.

The data is showing the increasing trend of the viral fever. Among the deaths, three were reported in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and three in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). 

Of the new patients, 251 were admitted in hospital under DNCC while 142 were hospitalized in DSCC. 

Meanwhile, 603 people were discharged from hospitals in last 24 hours.  Some 2,460 dengue patients are receiving treatment in different hospitals across the country.

Last year, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.
