CJ envisions transparent, corruption-free judiciary

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Wednesday gave a set of directives to the judicial officers, who have been working in the Supreme Court, including ensuring transparent and corruption free judiciary and providing quick service to the litigants and their engaged lawyers.

The Chief Justice also instructed the officials to avoid any financial transactions during the performance of duties, avoiding unnecessary delays in providing services as well as asked them to show compassionate behaviour towards service seekers.

In an orientation speech, the Chief Justice gave a total of 12 directives to the officials of the rank of Assistant Registrar and above working in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in the conference room of the main building of the Supreme Court. 

In his speech, the Chief Justice instructed the concerned officers and employees to properly follow the relevant rules, practice directions, circulars and other instructions of the Appellate Division and High Court Division while discharging their duties in order to provide better service to the aspirants' litigants. 

He expressed hope that the Supreme Court would set a model for other institutions in terms of providing service to the litigants seeking judicial services and their engaged advocates.

In his speech, the Chief Justice gave 12 specific instructions to the officials and employees of the Supreme Court including to ensure service in a quick time, avoiding any financial transactions during the performance of duties, avoiding unnecessary delays in providing services, showing compassionate behaviour towards service seekers, completing daily work daily. Daily inspection of branches by officials, without exception disciplinary action in case of irregularities and corruption is advisable. 

In particular, the Chief Justice asked the Assistant Registrars and Deputy Registrars of each branch to regularly inform their respective Additional Registrars about the activities of their branches and the Additional Registrars shall report every four weeks to the Registrar of High Courts and Appellate Divisions and the Registrar (Judicial) on their monitoring activities.

Currently Bangladesh Supreme Court has 38 branches in the High Court Division and 19 branches in the Appellate Division. 

It has one registrar general, and three registrars, four additional registrars, one special officer, 12 deputy registrars and 20 assistant registrars. Besides, a total of 2,500 employees are working in the Supreme Court in various courts and branches.
