A former BCL leader of Jahangirnagar University (JU) has died, hours after he was beaten up by students on the campus.
Deceased Shamim Ahmed succombed to his injuries at Gonoshasthaya Hospital in Savar at night, the hospital on-duty doctor Salimuzzaman Sujan confirmed.
He was 39th batch history student of the university and was the organising secretary of a former committee of JU BCL.
He died at Gonoshasthaya Hospital in Savar at 12 midnight on Wednesday.
According to the university source, Shamim lived near the campus. He was among the ex-BCL leaders who attacked the quota reform protesters on July 15.
Witnesses said Shamim was first beaten up by a group of students at the Prantik Gate of the campus in the evening. Later, security guards from the university rescued him and took him to the university's security section.
But some students beat him again in the presence of security guards and Proctor AKM Rashidul Alam, witnesses added.
At about 8:45PM, Shamim was handed over to Ashulia police.
As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the Gonoshasthaya Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
