Seven minors among eight drown

Seven minor children and a woman drowned in separate incidents in four districts - Bhola, Sunamganj, Khagrachhari and Cox's Bazar, in recent times.
LALMOHAN, BHOLA: Two minor children drowned in separate incidents in Lalmohan Upazila of the district in two days.
A minor boy drowned in a pond in the upazila on Tuesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdullah, 2, son of Md Kabir Mijhi, a resident of Ward No. 2 under Kalma Union in the upazila.
Local and the deceased's family sources said that Abdullah fell in a pond next to the house at noon while his family members were unaware of it. 
Later on, the family members found his body floating on the water and took to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the boy dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as there was no complaint lodged by them. 
Meanwhile, another minor child drowned in Lalmohan Upazila of the district on Monday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Md Rifat, 3, son of Dulal Sarder, a resident of Ward No. 6 Balurchar area under Kalma Union in the upazila. 
It was known that Rifat along with his mother went to visit his maternal grandparents' house in Ward No. 5 under the same union on Monday noon. In the afternoon, Rifat was playing on the yard of his grandparents, and at one stage, he fell in a pond next to the house.
Sensing the matter, the relatives rescued him and rushed him to Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead. 
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members without an autopsy as per their request.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalmohan Police Station (PS) SM Mahbub Ul Alam confirmed the incidents, adding that two separate unnatural death cases were filed with the PS in these connections.
SUNAMGANJ: Two minor girls and a woman drowned in separate incidents in Derai and Madhyanagar upazilas of the district in four days.
A minor girl drowned in a waterlogged cropland in Derai Upazila on Monday noon.
The deceased was identified as Israt Jahan, 3, daughter of Habibur Rahman, a resident of Natun Bagbari area under Derai Municipality.
It was known that Israt Jahan drowned in a waterlogged paddy field in the area at around 12 pm while she along with other children was playing beside it.
Later on, the family members rescued her and rushed to Derai Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the child dead. 
On the other hand, a minor girl and a woman drowned in separate incidents in Madhyanagar and Derai upazilas of the district in two days. 
An 18-month-old minor girl drowned in a water body in Madhyanagar Upazila of the district on Saturday morning. 
The incident took place in Gulgau Village under Bongshikundanorth Union of the upazila at around 8:30 am.  
The deceased was identified as Toamani, daughter of Rafikul, a resident of the area. 
It was known that the child drowned in a water body next to her house while her family members were engaged in other activities.
Later on, the family members saw her floating body and recovered it.
Madhyanagar PS OC Md Imran Hossain confirmed the incident.
Earlier, a woman drowned and another went missing after a boat capsized in Naluar Haor in Derai Upazila on Friday.
The incident took place in Haldipur-Bhurakhali area under Chilaura-Haldipur Union at around 2:30 pm.
Deceased Rahima Begum, 75, was the wife of Kadir Ullah of Kaldhar Village under Jagdal Union in the upazila.
Locals said that an engine-run boat capsized in the haor at noon amid the storm, which left two people missing and four others injured.
Later on, a team of divers recovered the body of Rahima Begum. 
Malika Begum, 35, wife of Kalam Mia, is still missing in the haor.
DIGHINALA, KHAGRACHHARI: A schoolgirl drowned in the Kobakhali River in Dighinala Upazila of the district on Monday noon. 
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Akhter Maria, 9, daughter of Md Billal Hossain, a resident of Joykumar Karbari Para area under Kobakhali Union in the upazila. She was a third grader at Kobakhali Government Primary School.
Local and the deceased's family sources said that after Eid-e-Miladunnabi programme at school, Sumaiya returned to home at around 11 am. Then, she along with other children went to the Kobakhali River to take bathe. At one stage of bathing, Sumaiya went missing in the river.
Later on, locals rescued Sumaiya and rushed her to Dighinala Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the girl dead. 
However, Dighinala Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land), on behalf of the upazila administration, provided assistance to the deceased's family.
CHAKARIA, COX'S BAZAR: Two minor children drowned while bathing in a pond in Chakaria Upazila of the district on Monday noon.
The incident took place in Kaharighona Sikderpara area under Chakaria Municipality at around 12 pm.
The deceased were identified as Sanjida Hossain, 8, daughter of Nabi Hossain, and Miftahul Jannat, daughter of Jamir Uddin, residents of the area.
According to locals, the duo along with others went to bathe in a pond at noon. At one stage, the two drowned there. Hearing screams from the others, locals rushed there and recovered the bodies of the duo.
Chakaria PS OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed the incident, adding that the bodies were handed over to their families.
