Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Adviser Syeda Rezwana Hasan on Thursday warned that a total of 3,491 illegal brick kilns, which were already identified across the country, will be closed soon.
Same time, no new brick kilns would be permitted in future considering the issues of environment and air pollutions. All brick kilns of the hill tracts areas would be relocated to other suitable places, she said while exchanging views with the Bangladesh Brick Manufacturing Owners Association (BBMOA).
Bangladesh Brick Manufacturing Owners Association (BBMOA) President Firoz Haider Khan led the delegation of the organization in the meeting.
Among others, high officials of the Ministry and Department of Environment also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the issues of production and modernization of the brick kilns and reduction of carbon emission were also discussed, according to a Ministry press release.
Expressing her concern over the impact of brick kilns, Rezwana Hasan said, "It is not enough to consider the matter of building constructions, we must have to ensure a livable environment for the next generation. Due to the air pollution, the average life expectancy of the country's people is being decreased by around 5 to 7 years."
