Bangladesh Mission is taking all out preparations to receive Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus during his visit to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Yunus is scheduled to arrive in New York accompanied by a seven-member delegation on Sept 22. The United Nations Secretariat said Yunus will deliver his speech representing Bangladesh at the 79th UNGA session on Sept 27.
"As per the instructions of the Bangladesh embassy in Washington, preparations are underway for the reception event. Expatriates of various classes and professions are cooperating to distribute invitation cards," Bangladesh Consulate General Najmul Huda said.
A delegation of the Foreign Ministry in New York is working in collaboration with Washington and Dhaka to make the Chief Advisor's programme in UNGA including fixing the time-schedule of Chief Advisor's sideline meetings with the world and regional leaders and programme with the Bangladesh's diasporas here.
"Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to arrive here on 24 September, Foreign Adviser Dr Tawfiq Hossain will arrive in New York on 22 September," a Foreign Ministry's official told this correspondent on Thursday over phone.
"We are working to chalk out the schedule of the Chief adviser's sideline meetings here, however, you will get a clear scenario within a couple of days," the official has said.
However, no scheduled meeting between Dr Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Norendra Modi has been fixed so far, he added.
Bangladesh's permanent mission to the United Nations and the Consulate General in New York is spending busy time scrutinizing the last minute schedule of Yunus's visit.
Meanwhile, a civic reception in honour of will be held on Sept 26 evening in the ballroom of the Marriott Marquis hotel adjacent to Times Square.
Meanwhile, the US unit of the Awami League has announced a demonstration during Yunus's visit to New York in protest against the attacks and cases on the party leaders and activists after the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government.
