ARSA commander held with arm, ammo in Cox’s Bazar

The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested a top leader of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) with a foreign firearm and 10 rounds of bullets from a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar’s on Thursday night.

The arrestee was Nurul Islam, 45, son of Gula Hossain of the camp No-13 in Ukhiya’s Palongkhali and commander of the camp unit of the ARSA.

Md Amir Jafar, commandant of the APBn-8 and additional deputy inspector general, said that they had a information that a consignment of arms from the neighbouring country would arrive at the camp. Based on the information, a team of APBn conducted a drive in Camp-13 on Thursday night and arrested Nurul and recovered a G3 rifle and 10 rounds of bullets from his possession.

The official said Nurul had been leading the Rohingya camp as the commander for a long.
