Two drown in Kushtia

A teenage girl and her niece drowned in beel in Kushtia Sadar Upazila on Thursday evening. 

The accident took place at Machhpara Sarkarpara village under Jhowdia Union.
The dead were Anamika, 15, daughter of Naib Ali, and Nazneen, 11, daughter of Golam Ali of that village.

Jhowdia UP Chairman Mehedi Hasan said Anamika and her niece Nazneen went to Machhpara, part of Chapaigachi beel in the afternoon. The two fell into the water during the boat trip in the beel. As the water was high and they could not swim, they drowned.

Later, on information, the divers of fire service recovered their bodies at night.

Kushtia Fire Service and Civil Defense Senior Station Officer Khurshid Anwar said, 'The family members informed us about the disappearance around 7 pm. After reaching the spot, the bodies of two were found after carrying out a rescue operation from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm.'
