Unrest in three hill districts may feed into violent riots: ISPR

The unrest prevailing in the three hill districts may feed into violent riots, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

So, the people of the three districts are specially requested to keep calm and maintain peace and harmony, read the statement issued on Friday (September 20).
In a media statement on Friday, ISPR said necessary legal action will be taken against those involved in the incidents of violence in Khagrachari and Rangamati through proper investigation.

The ISPR also requested community leaders to assist the law enforcement agencies in de-escalating the ongoing tension.

Earlier, the Khagrachari District Administration and Rangamati District Administration imposed Section 144, effectively banning public gatherings and restricting movement to control the situation.

Meanwhile, three people were killed, and 9 others were injured in a violent incident in Khagrachhari on Thursday and early Friday.

Our Khagrachhari Correspondent reports: Clashes had originated over mass beating one Mohammad Mamun, 30, at Dighinala in Khagrachhari on charge of stealing a motorcycle on Wednesday (September 18). Severely injured Mamun succumbed while underwent treatment at a hospital. 

On the following afternoon (Thursday), the business establishments and houses of locals were set on fire at Dighinala. However, business shops of some Bangalis were also set ablaze there. After a tense situation throughout the day, incidents of gunfight took place throughout the night, which left three people dead. Nine more people were also injured in the clashes. 

Of them, four critically injured people were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment.
