Four people murdered in four districts

Four people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in four districts - Natore, Jhalakati, Brahmanbaria and Munshiganj, in three days

GURUDASPUR, NATORE: A man was killed and his wife injured in an attack during a robbery at their residence in Gurudaspur Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Bri-Chapila Village of the upazila at around 4:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Harej Ali, 80, a resident of the area.

He died on the spot after being stabbed by the robbers while his wife Oleda Begum sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.  

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gurudaspur Police Station (PS) Ujjal Hossain confirmed the incident.

Upon realising the burglary, the couple raised an alarm and resisted, prompting the assailants to stab both Harej Ali and his wife.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Natore Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, three suspects, named Monirul Islam, 20, Masud Rana, 32, and Suman Ali, 30, were arrested in connection with the incident from the area, the police official added.

NALCHITY, JHALAKATI: A man was beaten to death over suspicion of being thief in Nalchity Upazila of the district in the small hours of Monday.

The incident took place in Kumarkhali Paschim Char area under Dapdapia Union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Razzak Khan, 30, son of Shahjahan Khan, a resident of Dhapor Village under the upazila.

Police sources said that a group of thieves was trying to steal cows from the village. At that time, locals apprehended Razzak and beat up him mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhalakati General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the deceased's wife Pakhi Begum claimed that Razzak as a day-labourer and denied his involved in the theft. She also alleged that Razzak was killed in a planned manner.

Nalchity PS Inspector Monoronjon Mistri confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this regard.

BIJOYNAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: A woman was reportedly hacked to death in Bijoynagar Upazila of the district on Monday.

The incident occurred in the morning at North Para Telibari under Singarbill Union of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Amena Begum, 50, hailed from Kishoreganj District.

She was reportedly attacked by Manik Mia, 48, who has been arrested by police. 

Local sources said that Amena Begum was begging from a woman at Manik Mia's home in Shreepur Village when Manik Mia suddenly struck her on the head without any provocation. He then proceeded to kill her with a machete. 

Police arrived at the scene upon receiving information, and apprehended Manik.

Bijoynagar PS OC Sahidul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that the body has been examined and Amena Begum's family has been notified. 

Further legal actions will be taken upon their arrival, the OC added.

MUNSHIGANJ: A construction worker was reportedly beaten to death due to a dispute over debt money in Tongibari Upazila of the district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Shimulia Village under the upazila at around 5:30 am.

The deceased was identified as Md Mijan, 25.

Locals recovered the body of Mijanwhile the accused was trying to dump the body in a pond, said Tongibari PS OC Mohidul Islam.
According to local sources, an argument ensued between the deceased and his co-worker Shahadat, 19, over a dispute relating to borrowed money. At one stage of the argument, Shahadat struck Mijan on his head several times with a hammer, leaving him dead on the spot.

Later on, the body was handed over to police.

Police then sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said OC Mohidul Islam.

The law enforcers have also arrested the accused and legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
