An auto-rickshaw driver has been stabbed to death by a mugger at Gendaria in Dhaka. The incident occurred around 3:00am on Saturday near the Panchayet Cemetery by Loharpool on Rajani Chowdhury Road. Jinnah Mondol, 55, was found injured and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He succumbed to his injuries at around 5:45am on Saturday while undergoing treatment, according to Inspector Md Faruk, In-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
"The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. The relevant police station has been informed," Inspector Faruk said. Md Imran, a young man who took Jinnah to the hospital, said, "Around 3:00am, we heard someone screaming, 'help! help!.' We rushed to the scene and found a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver clutching his chest."
"When we asked what happened, he pleaded for help, saying, 'take me to the hospital. I've been stabbed.' He said the passenger he had picked up from Postogola stabbed him and tried to take his auto-rickshaw." "We then took him to the emergency unit at DMCH. After informing his family, we left when his son arrived. Later, we learnt he had passed away during treatment."
