Local administration in Rangamati has withdrawn the Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan lifted the restriction through a public notice around 11am on Sunday.

The public notice said that as the law and order situation has normalized, the deputy commissioner and district magistrate of Rangamati Hill District hereby lift Section 144 from 11am on Sunday.

Although the district administration has lifted the Section 144 restrictions, leaders of the Rangamati Transport Owners’ Association have stated that the ongoing transport strike will continue.

Rangamati District Truck Owners’ Association General Secretary Abdur Rahim Akash said, “Our transport strike will continue for indefinite period.”

Earlier, Section 144 was imposed at 1:30pm on Friday following the clashes that left at least three people dead in Khagrachhari.
