NARAYANGANJ, Sept 22: A court in the district on Sunday sentenced a man to death for killing a woman and her pregnant daughter in the city in 2022.
Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Umme Saraban Tahura handed down the verdict at noon.
The condemned convict is Al Jubayer Swapnil, 28, son of Alauddin, a resident of Paikpara area in the city.
The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh.
Additional Public Prosecutor of the court Advocate Abdur Rahim confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the accused hacked Ruma Chakrabarty and her pregnant daughter Ritu Chakrabarty to death at their rented home in Nitaiganj Dalpatti area of the city in the afternoon of March 1, 2022.
Police arrested killer Al Jubayer Swapnil from the scene along with the murder weapon.
Later on, deceased Ruma Chakrabarty's husband Ramprasad Chakrabarty lodged a murder case against Swapnil as the lone accused.
After investigation, police then submitted the charge-sheet to the court, and following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Sunday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
