RMG workers block highway in Gazipur demanding perks

GAZIPUR, Sept 22:  RMG workers of a garment factory in Gazipur's Sadar upazila blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Sunday morning demanding attendance bonuses.

Following the protest, traffic movement on both the sides of the Highway came to a standstill.
The protest led to severe traffic congestion from Chandana Chowrasta to Mauna.

The workers of Palmal Group of Industries Ltd started the demonstration at Bagher Bazar area in the morning. Members of army and industrial police are working to control the situation.

The workers alleged they heard that  many garment factories are providing an attendance bonus. Now, they are demanding the same bonus at their factory.

Meanwhile, the workers of Asrotex Ltd at Notunbazar area under Sreepur upazila are observing work abstention demanding attendance bonuses, tiffin bill and increase of salary as per their grade.
