The government has formed 10 teams to ensure implementation, coordination, and supervision of mosquito eradication efforts to tackle nation-wide dengue outbreak.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting chaired by Abu Hena Morshed Zaman, secretary of the Local Government Division (LGD) on Monday morning.
The meeting also discussed creating public awareness to protect citizens from dengue infection, destroying mosquito breeding grounds, conducting cleanliness campaigns, and implementing mosquito and larva eradication measures.
Of the teams, four will work in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas, and three teams in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas and one team each has been formed to manage the activities in other city corporations, including Narayanganj, Gazipur and Chattogram.
Besides, another team has been formed for the vulnerable areas under Savar, Dohar, Tarabo, Rupganj and other municipalities.
Additionally, a seven-member committee has also been established to collect information and to coordinate the programme led by additional secretaries and joint secretary-level officers from the LGD.
These officials will visit at least three dengue outbreak areas daily and monitor its prevention programme with the coordination of chief executives of the city corporations and municipalities.
Additional Secretaries at the LGD M Nazrul Islam, AKM Tariqul Alam, M Fazlur Rahman, Administrator of DNCC M Mahmudul Hasan, Administrator of Narayanganj City Corporation AHM Quamruzzaman and other local government division officials, among others, were present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, at least two people died of dengue while 866 were hospitalized with the viral fever in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.
On September 22, six patients were reported to have died from dengue, which was the highest number of single-day dengue deaths.
