Bangladesh's climate adaptation efforts have been boosted by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), which aims to address a projected USD 230 billion financing gap for climate initiatives from 2023 to 2050.
The Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) has been supporting these efforts through phased training programs, equipping stakeholders with the skills to develop Concept Notes (CNs) and Funding Proposals (FPs) for the GCF.
On Sunday, GCA launched Phase II - Part 01 of its training program at the Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel, welcoming 64 participants from both the public and private sectors. The focus is on enabling Bangladesh's Access Entities and Executing Entities to secure GCF funding more effectively, a critical step in mobilizing resources for climate resilience projects.
Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, inaugurated the event, with Dr. M Feisal Rahman, GCA Country Manager, delivering opening remarks. Notable speakers included Dr. Rana Bahadur Thapa from Nepal's Alternative Energy Promotion Centre and Dr. Ahsan Uddin Ahmed, a prominent climate expert. M Mosleh Uddin, Senior Program Officer for Adaptation Finance at GCA, highlighted the continuity of this initiative, noting that Phase I was successfully completed in November 2023.
This training represents part of a broader strategy to build Bangladesh's technical capacity in accessing climate finance, particularly through direct engagement with the GCF.
