AFC U20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers

A complete humiliation for Bangladesh!

Bangladesh under-20 national football team suffered a 2-2 stalemate to a low-ranked rival from Guam in its second match of the AFC Under-20 Asian Cup 2025 Qualifiers on Monday in Vietnam.
It was not the first bad result for the boys in the tournament. Bangladesh already lost its first encounter with powerful Syria by 0-4 as the Middle Eastern country left very little scope for the opponent to stand in its way to the much-expected win.

But the first match result can be understood considering the Syrian men's national team is 92nd on the FIFA men's ranking. Bangladesh is ranked 186th. A huge difference in the ranking is reflected in the result.
As per the recent FIFA ranking published on 19 September, Guam is 204th.

Besides, Guam boys who only played 1-1 with the same strength as Bhutan two days ago surprised all by holding a stronger Bangladesh in a 2-2 in the following match.

One may argue that the bottom liners are all bottom liners. What difference is there? Still, Bangladesh was 18 ranks better then the opponent. So, the result was unexpected and unaccepted. A matter of total humiliation.

In the match, Mirajul netted the first goal for Bangladesh in the sixth minute while Moin scored the second in the 89th. Guam levelled the margin scoring two including one off a penalty.

Bangladesh will face the host Vietnam on 27 September. So the boys are getting enough time to prepare themselves for the match. Let's see what they can do then.
