Road mishaps claim 10 lives in 6 dists

A total of 10 people have been killed and at least eight others injured in separate road accidents in six districts - Brahmanbaria, Madaripur, Faridpur, Barishal, Rangpur and Bogura, in two days.  
NABINAGAR, BRAHMANBARIA: An elderly man was killed and two others were injured in a head-on collision between a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a microbus on the Radhika road in Nabinagar Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon. 
The accident took place in Waruk area on the road of the upazila at around 5:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Md Shukkur Khan, 60, son of late Ful Mia, a resident of Bogdohor Village under the upazila. 
It was known that a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a microbus were collided head-on in Waruk area in the afternoon, which left Shukkur Khan dead on the spot and two others injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Nabinagar Upazila Health Complex.
Local sources said that reckless driving on the road frequently leads to such tragic accidents. Just a few days earlier on September 20, another fatal accident claimed the life of a young man. They urge both public awareness and administrative action to prevent further accidents on this dangerous road.
MADARIPUR: Two persons including a minor girl were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Sadar and Kalkini upazilas of the district on Sunday. 
A teenage boy was killed and five others were injured in a road accident in Sadar Upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rafsan Molla, 17.
It was known that a truck hit an easy-bike in front of the toll plaza of the Arial Khan Bridge in Kwajapur Union of the upazila in the afternoon, which left Rafsan dead on the spot and five other passengers of the easy-bike seriously injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body. 
The injured were rescued and admitted to hospital.
Earlier, a minor girl was killed after being hit by a batter-run auto-van in Kalkini Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Habiba, 2, daughter of Rashed Munsi of Charbibhagadi Village under Kalkini Municipality.
Police and local sources said that Habiba along with her family members went to visit Bihavidi area. A battery-run auto-van hit the child there on the Kalkini-Khaserhat road in the morning, leaving her seriously injured.
Injured Habiba was then rescued and taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor referred her to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) following the deterioration of her condition.
Later on, Habiba succumbed to her injuries on the way to the SBMCH.
Superintendent of Police (SP) in Madaripur Md Saifuzzaman confirmed the incidents, adding that necessary steps would be taken in these connections.
FARIDPUR: Two friends were killed in a road accident in Nagarkanda Upazila of the district on Sunday morning.
The accident took place in Kandi area on the Dhaka-Khulna highway of the upazila at around 9 am. 
The deceased were identified as Titas Sheikh, 18, son of Rabiul Sheikh, and Utsa Mollah, 17, son of Sabu Mollah, both hailed from Narail District.
Police and local sources said that the two friends were returning Narail riding on a motorcycle after visiting Kuakata Sea Beach in Patuakhali in the morning. When they reached Kandi area, the motorcycle lost control over its steering and fell onto the road, which left the duo dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the scene and handed those over to the deceased's families after completing autopsies.
Sub-Inspector of Bhanga Highway Police Station (PS) MA Noman confirmed the incident.
BARISHAL: Two people were killed as a bus hit their motorcycle in Gournadi Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The accident took place in Illa Bus Stand area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway of the upazila at around 9:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Lavlu Majhi, 35, son of Jamal Majhi, a resident of Ward No. 1 Sundari Mohalla under Gournadi Municipality, and Sentu Mridha, 40, son of Shafi Mridha, a resident of Rajapur Nandanpatti area in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Gournadi Fire Service Station Officer Bipul Hossain said that a bus of 'Sakura Paribahan' from Barishal City hit a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in Illa Bus Stand area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway at night, which left the two motorcyclists critically injured.
Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Lavlu Majhi dead. 
Later on, Sentu Mridha also died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gournadi Highway PS Golam Rasul Molla confirmed the incident. 
RANGPUR: Two workers were killed when a bus collided with a three-wheeler in Mithapukur Upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The accident occurred at around 8 pm on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway near Shathibari Dream Plus Petrol Pump.
The deceased were identified as Hossain Mia, 40, son of late Abdul Baten, and Selim Mia, 40, son of late Khoda Box, residents of Haldi Bari Village under Charghat Upazila in Rajshahi. 
According to police and local sources, a Rangpur-bound bus of 'Soukhin Paribahan' coming from Dhaka hit a three-wheeler (locally called brick-breaking machine) in the area at night, which left the two workers dead on the spot.
Borodargah Highway Police Outpost Sergeant Abdur Rashid confirmed the accident, stating that the bus has been seized following the tragic incident and legal actions will be taken in this regard.
BOGURA: An auto-rickshaw driver was killed and a passenger injured after being hit by a truck in Kahalu Upazila of the district on Saturday noon.
The accident took place on the Ranihat-Durgapur regional road in Domargram Bol Dhar area under the upazila at around 1 pm.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Sattar, 65, son of Muhammad Ali, a resident of Dhakanta area under Malancha Union in the upazila.
The accident occurred when Abdus Sattar was going to Sabrul Bazar of the upazila taking a passenger on his auto-rickshaw. On the way, a truck hit the three-wheeler in Domargram Bol Dhar area at around 1pm, leaving him dead on the spot and the passenger injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family.
The injured person was rescued and admitted to Kahalu Upazila Health Complex.
Kahalu PS OC Shahinuzzama confirmed the incident.
