The National Teachers' Forum has called for the inclusion of Islamic scholars in the coordination committee formed by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) to revise and amend all textbooks. The demand was made during a human chain protest held in front of the National Press Club on Monday.

The event was presided over by the central president of the National Teachers' Forum, Professor Nasir Uddin Khan.

He emphasized the need for the interim government to revise the announced committee and form a new one. "It is impossible to structure textbooks without considering religious consciousness. The current members of the commission have limited knowledge of religious values. Therefore, it is crucial to include Islamic scholars in the committee," he said.

Dr. Masudul Rahman Golam Rabbani Azhari, the training secretary of the organization, added that subject-specific experts are necessary for textbook revisions. "Just as the interim government appointed religious advisors, Islamic scholars should also be included in the curriculum revision process."

"An education advisor, alongside a representative from Alia, Qawmi, or Islamic Studies departments of universities, must be appointed to the committee," Azhari remarked.

Also present at the event were Vice President of the National Teachers' Forum Nesar Uddin, General Secretary S.M. Abdur Rahim, and President of Dhaka South Metropolitan Chapter Amir Hossain, among others.    —UNB
