Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta and Ekattor TV CEO Mozammel Babu were on Monday sent to jail by two separate courts of Dhaka in the case of murder of Fazlu of Bhasantek Police Station and murder of house maid Liza Akhter of Ramna Police Station during Anti-discrimination Students Movement .
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed passed the order rejecting the bail prayer of Shyamal Dutta and Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam passed order for Mozammel Babu after hearing his bail prayer.
On Monday Shyamal Dutta was produced before the CMM court after a seven-day remand in Fazlu Murder case of Bhasantek Police Station.
On September 17, he was placed on seven-day remand in the case.
On the other hand Ekattor TV's Mozammel Babu was produced before the CMM court by Inspector Md Payel Hossain of Ramna Police Station after a seven-day remand in house maid Liza Akhter murder case.
On September 16, locals detained Mozammel Babu and Shyamal Dutta while they were entering India illegally through Dhobaura border area under Mymensingh district. Later, they were handed over to the police.
Former president of Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee, Shahriar Kabir was shown arrested in two more cases filed over the deaths of a madrasa student and the proprietor of a computer training centre in Dhaka's Jatrabari during the quota reform movement in July.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sharifur Rahman passed orders in this regard on Monday following petitions submitted by the investigation officers.
Former law minister Anisul Huq and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun were shown arrested in a case filed over the murder of Hafez Mohammad Jubayer Ahmed during the quota reform movement on August 5.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Nurul Huda Chowdhury passed the order after Investigation Officer Sarwar Khan Rassel, a sub-inspector of Adabor Police Station, submitted a prayer to the court in this regard.
On August 13, police arrested Anisul Huq from Dhaka's Sadarghat area when he was trying to flee and Mamun was arrested from Uttara on September 4.
