Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim, made a surprise visit to the university’s cafeteria on Wednesday morning to assess the quality of food and gather feedback from students and staff about the overall environment.
During his visit, the Vice-Chancellor engaged with cafeteria staff, inquiring about food preparation processes and hygiene practices. He also spoke directly with students to hear their opinions, giving them the opportunity to voice their experiences and concerns.
While many students appreciated the quality of the food, some raised issues about the pricing and the consistency of the menu. The Vice-Chancellor took their concerns seriously and promised swift action to resolve them.
Al-Amin, a student from the Accounting Department, shared his thoughts: “After the protests, the food quality improved temporarily but soon declined to the previous standard. Sometimes, the food runs out before lunch, forcing us to attend classes hungry. Finding good quality food in a healthy environment around the campus is challenging."
He added, “We were promised vending machines after the protests, but we still haven’t received them. The university administration needs to take food quality more seriously.”
Masud Rana, the cafeteria director, stated, “The Vice-Chancellor has instructed us to prioritize improving food quality and maintaining cleanliness. He emphasized regular monitoring to ensure that students receive healthy, hygienic food. Additionally, he directed us to address student complaints and suggestions promptly.”
The Vice-Chancellor explained, “Although I usually have breakfast at home, I often have lunch at the cafeteria. With hundreds of students, teachers, and staff relying on this facility daily, it is crucial to maintain high standards in both food quality and cleanliness.”
