A Dhaka court has granted bail to television director Rafat Mozumder Rinku in a case filed over the murder of college student Mohammad Naimur Rahman at Gulshan area of the capital during recent mass uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence on Thursday afternoon.
The defence sought his bail on the grounds that Rinku's name was not included in the first information report (FIR) and claimed that the case was filed to ‘harass’ him.
The prosecution, however, opposed the bail plea, stating that Rinku was present on the scene of the murder and he was found directly involved. After hearing both sides, the court passed the order.
Rinku's lawyer said Rinku was released on bail after two days of jail time. He said that Rinku was arrested from Gulshan on September 23 as a suspect because of his political background. He was granted bail pending legal action.
According to the case documents, on July 19, Naimur Rahman, 22, student of Gulshan Degree College, was shot dead at Shahjadpur of Gulshan during student movement.
