A video of the torture has already spread to different social media.
Conducting raid at night on Wednesday, police arrested victim's husband Noor Nabi, husband's elder brother Sheikh Farid, his wife Sayera Khatun and his son Saiful Islam Hasan, said Char Jabbar Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Kawsar Alam Bhuiyan. 

Earlier on September 13 last, the incident of torture happened at the house of Abdul Hadi in village Char Mazid under Purbo Char Bata union.

The 30-year-old victim Sharmin Akter alleged that she had married to Noor Nabi of the same ward about 12 years ago at the family level. As the husband Noor Nabi is a physically challenged person, he runs his family through begging. They needed Tk 50,000 as one of their daughter had been suffering from heart disease. Because of it, he managed Tk 15,000 by begging at several local markets. The husband often rebuked her raising the allegations of extramarital affair with other men. It led to serious family dispute. Then she went to Dhaka to find a job. At one stage, she returned home being assured by the husband's family members.

Sharmin Akter also alleged that at night on August 13 last, one Belal Sawdagar, a neighbour of her husband, took her to the father-in-law's house assuring her of no problems. "When I reached there, they started misbehaving with me. At one stage of altercation at about 12 midnight, father-in-law Abdul Hadi, sisters-in-law Kulsuma and Nargis, husband's elder brother's son Hasan, nephew Rasel, husband Noor Nabi and his sister Sayera Khatun started beating and kicking me mercilessly tying up my hands and legs. I am an orphan and I have no parents. My maternal cousins arranged my marriage. Receiving information, they came and resuced me. Then they took me to their house."

Char Jabbar Police Station's OC Kawsar Alam Bhuiyan said a case was filed against the arrested persons and they will be produced before Noakhali's Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
