Three more die of dengue, 829 hospitalised in a day

Three more dengue patients died and  829 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever in 24 hours till Thursday morning, showing the increasing tend of dengue in the country.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), with the fatalities, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease rose to 141 this year.

Of the new cases, 194 dengue patients were admitted to the hospital under Dhaka North City Corporation while 158 were hospitalized in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Some 2,931 patients are receiving treatment in different hospitals across the country. A total of 25,701 dengue cases have been reported since January 1, 2024.

DGHS said 50 per cent of the total hospitalised dengue patients are from the two city corporations of Dhaka followed by Chattogram and Barishal.  It said in August, the situation dengue worsened, with 27 fatalities and 6,521 new cases.

In September, the total number of dengue cases has reached 26,555, with the death toll climbing to 138.

Recently, the government has formed 10 teams to curb the ongoing dengue situation in the country. The DNCC administrator said three monitoring teams from the local government department  are conducting on-site inspections of larvicidal activities.

These inspections are carried out in two phases: the first from 7am to 10am and the second from 4pm to 6pm across the ten regions, he added.

Last year, 1,705 people lost their lives due to dengue, making it the deadliest year on record.
