The first consignment of 12 metric tonnes of hilsa was exported to India through Benapole land port on Thursday ahead of Durga Puja.
Three trucks carrying the hilsa fish were sent by three export-import organisations -- Sajjad Enterprises, Swarnali Enterprises, and Soma Enterprises and reached the Petrapole Land Port in India, said Benapole cargo branch revenue officer Masudur Rahman
According to the Ministry of Commerce's guidelines, all hilsa exports must be completed by October 12.
The export price of hilsa has been fixed at USD 10 per kilogram, which is equivalent to Tk 1,180.
Responding to the ‘special request’ from India, the Bangladesh government has approved to export a total of 2,420 metric tonnes of hilsa fish through 49 export agencies ahead of Durga Puja.
Aswadul Islam, Fisheries Inspector of Fisheries Inspection and Quality Control Office of Benapole Port, said 12 metric tonnes of hilsa was exported after checking quality at noon.
