Four people including two women and a teenage girl were electrocuted in separate incidents in three districts - Gaibandha, Pabna and Jamalpur, on Wednesday and Thursday.
SADULLAPUR, GAIBANDHA: A man and his wife were electrocuted in Sadullapur Upazila of the district on Thursday.
The accident took place in Khola Mandal Bazar area under Rasulpur Union of the upazila at around 11:45 am.
The deceased were identified as Bidhan Chandra, 34, and his wife Kamali Rani, 29, residents of that area.
Local sources said that Bidhan came in contact with an electric wire while charging his battery-powered auto-van at his home in the morning.
Realising the matter, his wife Kamli came forward to save him. She was also electrocuted at that time. Both of them lost their lives before their relatives could rescue them.
Sub Inspector of Sadullapur Police Station (PS) Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this connection.
PABNA: A woman and her teenage daughter were electrocuted in Sadar Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident took place in Kacharpur Purpurpara Village under Ataikula PS of the upazila at around 4:30 pm.
The deceased were identified as Arjina Khatun, 45, wife of Nawabuddin Khan, and their daughter Arsha Khatun, 13, residents of the area. Arsha Khatun was an eighth grader at Kacharpur Dakhil Madrasa in Ataikula.
Local sources said that Arsha came in contact with live electricity at around 4:30 pm while she was touching the iron door of the cowshed of their house, which left her critically injured. Sensing the matter, her mother Arjina came forward to rescue her daughter, but was also electrocuted. Both of them died on the spot.
Being informed, police visited the scene.
Officer-in-Charge of Ataikula PS Habibul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
JAMALPUR: An auto-rickshaw driver was electrocuted in Melandah Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Md Mamunul Haque, 27, son of Shukkur Ali, a resident of Shahjadpur Brahmanpara Village in the upazila.
Police and local sources said that Mamunul connected battery plug of his auto rickshaw with electricity for charging in the house on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, he came in contact with live electricity while trying to unplug it from the socket, which left him critically injured.
Local people then rescued the injured and took him to Melandah Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared the youth dead.
