‘Police to maintain law, order during Durga Puja’

KHULNA, Sept 26: Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner Zulfiqar Ali Haider  on Wednesday said, police will remain alert to maintain law and order ahead of Durga Puja.

"KMP will perform its duties with utmost professionalism to celebrate the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community," he made the remark while exchanging views with leaders of the city unit of Puja Udjapan Parishad at the KMP headquarters.

The police commissioner said, all security measures have been taken for before and after the Durga Puja as well as the emersion of the idol.

KMP officials including the officers-in-charge (OCs) of all Metropolitan Police Stations have already started visiting puja mandaps. 

He also urged the leaders of the puja committee to deploy their own volunteers at each puja manndap to ensure all-time security.

He requested for informing the national emergency service 999 or the OC of PS concerned, if any untoward incident occurs. 

President of City Puja Udjapon Parishad Shyamol Halder, General Secretary (GS) Proshanta Kumar Kundu, presidents and GSs of all PS units of the Puja Udjapan Parishad and high officials of KMP, among others, were present.

Earlier, the KMP commissioner exchanged views with the leaders of Khulna Imam Parishad and Islamic Foundation.

He urged the Imams to play a vital role in keeping communal harmony before and after the Durga Puja.
