9 killed, 23 injured in road accidents in 6 districts

At least nine people including  three garments workers a Union Parisad Member and a minor were killed and 23 others injured on Thursday in separate road accident in six districts. Three people were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a minibus and a truck on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Shibalaya upazila, Manikganj.  

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Borongail Highway Police Md Ibrahim confirmed the incident.

According to the OC, a minibus carrying garment workers collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction at around 6:30 am. The front of the minibus was severely damaged, while the truck veered off the road into the ditch. One person died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries after being taken to the hospital.

Upon receiving the news, local fire service personnel, highway police, and local residents rushed to the scene to assist in the rescue efforts. The injured were taken to Shibalaya Upazila Health Complex and Manikganj District Hospital for treatment.

Shammi Akhter, a doctor on duty at the emergency department of Shibalaya Upazila Health Complex, confirmed that 20 people were given medical care. A youth was killed and three others were injured in a road accident at Parkola Bazar on the Bogura-Nagarbari Highway in Shahjadpur of the district on Thursda. The victim was identified as Meraj Mandal, 18. 

Police said the accident occurred as a truck had a head-on collision with an auto-rickshaw at Parkola Bazar this morning, leaving Meraj dead on the spot and three others injured.

The injured people are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. A youth named Mithun Mia (27) was killed in a road accident in the district. The accident happened on Thursday morning in the Char Bridge area of the farm of the upazila. The deceased Mithun Mia was the son of Mizan Mia of Hossain Nagar village of Narayanpur union of upazila.

According to the deceased's family and highway police, on Thursday morning, Mithun was died after being run over by an unknown vehicle at Char Bridge area of Khamar on Dhaka-Sylhet highway. Safar Uddin, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Bhairav Highway Police Station, said, "The victim's father, Mizan Mia, has filed a wrongful death case at the Bhairab Highway police station. We are trying to capture the vehicle."

Two students died in a road accident while riding a motorcycle in Barisal's Bakerganj upazila. On Thursday while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital they died.  At 4 pm on  last Wednesday (September 25)  in another accident occurred in front of Dudhal Mau Government Primary School on the Barisal-Kuakata Highway, claimed the lives of Mohammad Jai Khan (16), class eighth student of Bakerganj JSU Model High School, son of Arab Ali Khan of Runshi village and Saimun Howlader (17) student of class nine Bakerganj Mujahidiya Madrasa, son of Nasir Howlader.
