KISHOREGANJ, Sept 27: Statue-making work is going on in full swing in the town and 13 upazilas of the district.

Idol-makers are passing busy time in making statues of Hindu gods and goddess ahead of Durga Puja. They are working round the clock.

They are expecting better earning this year as the number of puja mandaps will be increased. They will get good return as the price of each idol has been increased from Tk 40,000 to Tk. 45,000.

Dilip Pal in Kalibari area in the town, who has received orders for several idols, said, the cost of raw materials including earth, rope, straw, bamboo and jute have highly been increased; but their remuneration is the same like that of last several years.

"Now I have very little time to sleep as the idols will have to be completed as per work order," he added.

He further said, "Some five to eight workers can make a big idol in 10-15 days."

About 70 idol-makers are making idols in the district. They have already completed 50 per cent work.

District Puja Udjapan Parishad President Narayan Datta Prodip said,
the preparation for upcoming Durga Puja has been costlier due to high price of the raw materials as well as increased charges of idol-makers, Purohits, and Dhakis.

Puja Udjapan Parishad Secretary Mridul Kanti Mojumder said, Durga Puja will be celebrated in about 396 mandaps in the district including eight private mandaps in the town from October 5 to 11.
