NALITABARI, SHERPUR, Sept 27: Frequent load-shedding is crippling life and causing loss to businesses in Nalitabari Upazila of the district.

Along with severe heating in the upazila, the load-shedding is taking place simultaneously.

Through two sub-stations electricity is being supplied to 54,000 Palli Bidyut subscribers in the upazila.

This warming time the daily electricity demand is 20 megawatt (mw). But only 8mw is supplied.

Subscribers have been angry and demanded solving the problem soon.

Children and old men are suffering mostly. Low-income people cannot work amid rising temperature.
At present, the temperature is continuing between 35 and 39 degree Celsius.

Day-earning people including rickshaw-pullers and labourers are facing disarray.

Billing men of the Palli Bidyut are facing anger of subscribers when they were going house to house for meter reading.

An agriculture labourer of Barmari area Habibur Rahman said, "Aman fields are in irrigation crisis. We can't work in fields for long time. We are experiencing excessive sweating."

A farmer Shah Jamal said, "Electricity outage is taking place for unpredictable time. The abnormal heating started in the beginning of Ashwin. We have been suffocated amid warming. Our family members including children and old cannot sleep at night."

Rickshaw-puller Mafizul Islam said, "I can't go out due to heating regularly. My income decreased to Tk 250-300 against Tk 500-600. I am hiccupping to give daily charge to the rickshaw owner. I find no option to maintain my family."

Deputy General Manager of Palli Bidyut-Nalitabari Zonal Office Md Akhtaruzzaman said, against the total demand of 20mw electricity, only 7-8mw is supplied through two sub-stations.  So, the load-shedding has been increased due to the supply shortage. Yet, we hope the problem will be solved soon. The authorities have been informed. "
