BAGATIPARA, NATORE, Sept 28: Ghop Village is at Jamnagar Union in Bagatipara Upazila of the district. Three directions of the village are surrounded by the Boral River.

The village looks an island in U shape. Its communication is only northern-oriented. Two directions of the total three ones are linked with two roads.

But these two roads are the barrier of communication for people of the village.

The roads are: Gochor-Goylar Ghop Ghat and Goylar Ghop-Puccna Ghat.

In the rainy season, people pass these ghats by ferry boat while in the dry season, they use bamboo pathways.

In the north of Goylar Ghop, there are about 20,000 people in 10 villages.

The river-induced village is known for vegetables. After meeting the local demand, vegetables and other agri-items are sent to Dhaka and other areas of the country.

As the village is 15 kilometre (km) away from Sadar Upazila, growers have to sell their produce to Fariahs (middle men) of Jamnagar Bazar at nominal prices.

In the southeast of the village, there is Puccna Village at Puccna Union. Students of Goylar Ghat Village go to primary school, high school and college of Jamnagar and Puccna Village.

After crossing the river, the Arani Railway Station is only half a kilometre distance. Aranai Haat is well-known in Bagha Upazila.

Due to the Boral River, both locals and students are suffering for communications for going to educational institutions and Puccna Haat along the Boral and Arani Haat.

Arani-Bagatipara Road from Goylar Ghop Village via Puccna Village to Upazila Sadar is metalised.

But people of the village have to round several kilometres of road for going to the Upazila Sadar via Jamnagar.

Only one bridge can change the wheel of lot of people of the village.

In different times of parliament, upazila and union elections, candidates gave assurance of a bridge. But later on, the commitment was not kept.

Dwellers of Goylar Ghop Village said, in the absence of a bridge, they cannot market their agri-items properly.

Businessman Kalam of Puccna Village said, students have to suffer a lot in the rainy season for crossing the river by boat; and in the rainy season, the bamboo pathway is the only resort.

Besides, he added, in carrying goods, people of Goylar Ghop Village have to take a great trouble. Ferry operator Idris Ali said, he ferries 150-200 people daily; his life runs on his ferrying earning.

But, he added, considering the suffering of common people, it is necessary to build a bridge at Goylar Ghop-Puccna Ghat.

Locals complained, for several times, engineering team of the Engineering Department made the measurement of the proposed bridge; but later on, it was not followed.

In order to ensure safe communication for farmers and students and market goods, the bridge is much demanded over the Boral River.
Jamnagar Union Chairman Golam Rabbani said, the bridge is most important at that point.

Upazila Engineer Azizur Rahman said, a bridge project for the ghat was sent; soil survey report was also sent to the authorities concerned.
A 200-metre bridge will be constructed at the ghat soon, he added.
