Former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has been placed on a four-day remand in a case filed over the death of a trader named Abdul Wadud in New Market area during student movement on July 19.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubul Haque passed the order after Investigation Officer (IO) Murad Khan, a sub-inspector of New Market Police Station, produced him before the court and sought 10-day remand in the case.
The defence submitted an application, seeking bail and cancellation of the remand prayer on grounds that the accused was implicated in the case just for harassment. After hearing the both sides, the court passed the order.
On September 3, Mamun was arrested and the next day, he was placed on eight-day remand in the case lodged over the murder of Mohammadpur grocery shop owner Abu Sayed.
The former police chief was placed on four-day remand on September 24 in another case filed over the killing of Mohammad Ismamul Haque in Chankharpul area.
According to the case documents, on July 19, Abdul Wadud was killed in front of 1st gate of New Market.
His relative Abdur Rahman filed the case on August 21 against 130 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former law minister Anisul Huq, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and Sheikh Hasina's private industry affairs adviser Salman F Rahman.
