Road mishaps claim nine lives in 7 dists

Nine people have been killed and at least 12 others injured in separate road accidents in seven districts - Naogaon, Chapainawabganj, Barishal, Mymensingh, Munshiganj, Chattogram, and Gopalganj, in four days. 
NAOGAON: Two people were killed in separate road accidents in Porsha and Manda upazilas of the district in three days.
A man was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Porsha Upazila on Sunday.
The accident took place in Jalua Mor area on the Saraigachhi-Adda road under the upazila in the morning. 
The deceased was identified as Saifuddin Mantu, 55, son of late Abu Taher, a resident of Jalua Village in the upazila. 
It was known that a speedy motorcycle coming from Taitor Mor hit Saifuddin in Jalua Mor area in the morning while he was crossing the Saraigachhi-Adda road, which left him seriously injured.
Locals then rescued him, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way to a hospital. 
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Porsha Police Station (PS) Shahin Reza confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken if any written complaint is received from the deceased's family members.
On the other hand, an auto-van driver was killed in a road accident in Manda Upazila of the district on Friday morning. 
The accident took place at Sekihpara crossing in Gonashpur Village under Gonashpur Union of the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Sahidul Islam, 42, son of late Nur Mohammad, a resident of Goneshpur Sajipara Village in the upazila.
Local sources said that Sahidul fell from his battery-run auto-van and suffered a head injury while trying to give way to another auto-van at Sekihpara crossing in Gonashpur Village, causing him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members.
Manda PS OC Mansur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
GOMASTAPUR, CHAPAINAWABGANJ: A motorcyclist was killed and another injured after a head-on collision between a motorcycle and an auto-rickshaw in Gomastapur Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The accident took place at Madrasa intersection on the Soudala-Kansart road under the upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sahjan Ali, 38, son of late Afsar Ali, a resident of Hadinagar Village under Shibganj Upazila in the district. 
It was known that a motorcycle collided with a battery-run auto-rickshaw in Madrasa intersection area on the Soudala-Kansart road of the upazila in the afternoon while two people riding on a motorcycle were going to Kansart, which left both of the motorcyclists critically injured. 
Locals then rescued the injured and took them to Gomastapur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Sahjan Ali dead. 
Injured Liton was, later, referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for better treatment. 
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased and handed it over to the deceased's family members.
Gomastapur PS OC Golam Kibria confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
BARISHAL: A man was killed and 10 others were injured in separate road accidents in Gournadi Upazila of the district in three days.
A man was killed and another injured in a road accident in the upazila on Saturday.
The accident took place in Gainer Par area on the Dhaka-Barishal highway under the upazila at dawn. 
The deceased was identified as Chanchal Sarker, 55, son of Nagendranath Sarker, a resident of Sangram Neel Village under Sadar Upazila in Jhalakati District. He was a fruit trader by profession.
The injured person is Md Saidul Islam, son of Abdul Khaleq, hailed from Adura Village under Mirzaganj Upazila in Patuakhali District. He worked as an assistant of a pickup van driver.
Senior Station Officer of Gournadi Fire Service Bipul Hossain said that Chanchal Sarker was heading towards Dhaka from Jhalakati carrying hog plum on a truck at early hours of Saturday. On the way, the truck stopped due to its internal damage. Then, the truck was being repaired beside the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Gainer Par area under Gouripur Upazila of Barishal while Chanchal Sarker was sitting inside the vehicle. At that time, a Dhaka-bound pickup van suddenly hit the standing truck from behind after losing its control over the steering, which left Chanchal dead on the spot and the helper of the pickup van driver critically injured.
On information, Fire Service personnel rushed in, recovered the body of the deceased, and rescued the injured person. 
Later on, they handed over the body to police. 
Police then sent it to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the Fire Service official added.
However, both the vehicles involved in the accident were seized.
Gournadi Highway PS OC Golam Rasul Molla confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this connection.
Earlier, nine people were injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck in Gournadi Upazila of the district early Thursday.
The accident took place in Borobari Bus Stand area on the Gournadi-Poisarhat regional road of the upazila. 
Gournadi Fire Service Station Officer Md Bipul said that a bus of 'Hawlader Paribahan' from Gopalganj collided head-on with a Agailjhara-bound truck in Borobari Bus Stand area at dawn, which left nine people injured.
The injured were rescued and admitted to Gournadi Upazila Health Complex first, from there, three were shifted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Gournadi Model PS OC Md Yunus Mia confirmed the incident.
GOURIPUR, MYMENSINGH: An elderly man was killed after being hit by a motorcycle in Gouripur Upazila of the district on Friday night.
The accident took place in Kalipur Dainik Bazar area of the upazila town at around 9:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Swapan Kumar Saha, 66. He used to run a tea stall in the area.
Local sources said that a speedy motorcycle hit Swapan Kumar at around 9:30 pm while he was crossing the road in front of his shop, which left him critically injured.
Locals then rescued Swapan and took him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Gouripur PS OC Mirza Majharul Anwar confirmed the incident, adding that legal actions will be taken upon receiving any complaint in this regard.
SREENAGAR, MUNSHIGANJ: A motorcyclist was killed and his pillion rider injured in road crash in Sreenagar Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
The accident took place in Samashpur area on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway under the upazila at around 10 am.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Rafi. The details about him could not be known immediately.
Quoting locals, Kanchan Kumar Sinha, in-charge of Hasara Highway Police Sutpost, said that the accident occurred when Rafi lost control over his motorcycle and hit a road divider on the Mawa-bound lane of the expressway in Samashpur area of the upazila at around 10 am, which left Rafi dead on the spot and his pillion rider seriously injured.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene.
The injured was rescued and taken to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex first, and later, shifted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment, the police official added.
CHATTOGRAM: Two people were killed after being crushed by a truck in the district on Thursday night.
The accident took place in Sonaichari Pakka Masjid KDS Logistics area on the Chattogram-Dhaka highway at around 9 pm.
The deceased were identified as C&F officer Md Jasim Uddin, 38, hailed from Khulna District, and KDS security guard Mizanur Rahman, 60, hailed from Halishahor area in Chattogram City.
Local sources said that a Chattogram-bound truck ran over the two while they were crossing the Chattogram-Dhaka highway in Sonaichari Pakka Masjid KDS Logistics area at around 9 pm, which left Jasim Uddin dead on the spot and Mizanur Rahman critically injured.
Locals then rescued Mizanur Rahman and took him to Sitakunda Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
Baro Aulia PS OC Khokon Chandra Ghosh confirmed the incident, adding that a case was filed with Sitakunda PS in this connection.
GOPALGANJ: A man was killed in a road accident in Kotalipara Upazila of the district on Thursday afternoon.
The accident took place in Tupuria area on the Gopalganj-Poisarhat road under the upazila at around 5 pm.
The deceased was identified as Reyazul Hossain Nanna, 28, son of Shahin Sheikh of Fakirbari Village under Morrelganj Upazila in Bagerhat District. He worked as a sales officer at Burger Paints.
It was known that Reyazul was heading towards Gopalganj Town from Kotalipara Upazila in the afternoon riding on a motorcycle after finishing his work. On the way, a passenger-laden bus coming from the opposite direction hit his motorcycle in Tupuria area on the Gopalganj-Poisarhat road, leaving him dead on the spot.
Being informed, police recovered the body.
