A youth has been killed by his rivals over a dispute centering a mobile phone at Kendua upazila in Netrakona district.
The deceased was identified as Shakibul Islam, 28, son of Chan Miah, a resident of Paharpur village under Ganda union in the upazila.
He died at Rajarbag BMK Hospital on Sunday night while undergoing treatment.
Earlier, he was attacked and got injured on Saturday (September 28) night by his rivals.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kendua Police Station, said, " There has been a long standing dispute between Shabikul and Tara Miah over a land. Nurullah, local UP member, had been talking in favor of Tara Miah in this conflict. Around two years ago, Shakibul lost a mobile phone which was later recovers. Since then, Tara Miah had been keeping the phone to himself instead of returning to Shabikul."
"Following this incident, on Saturday night, Shabikul locked in an altercation with Nurullah at a local shop premise. After that, Nurullah along with his associates attacked on Shabikul and his friend Sharifullah, leaving both of them critically injured, the OC added"
"Later, locals rescued the duo and took them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Shabikul was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at that night. Subsequently, he was taken to Rajarbag BMK Hospital for better treatment where he died on Sunday night, the police official added"
