Police failed to submitted charge sheet in the sensational Gopibag six-murder case even after three years of the incident.
Self-proclaimed saint Lutfor Rahman, his son Sarowar Islam Faruk alias Monir, and four others were found slaughtered at their Gopibagh house on December 21, 2013. The case still remains on the backburner as the designated investigation officer (IO) has failed to arrest the perpetrators during the last one year in connection with the gruesome killings.
Six people, including a locally known religious leader Lutfor Rahman Faruk, 60, his banker's son Sarowar Islam alias Monir, 30, were slaughtered by miscreants at RK Mission Road, Gopibagh in the capital on December 21, 2013 over a religious conflict. The other victims were Mujibur Rahman, 30, Russell, 25, Shahin, 25, and Manju, 30, the followers of Lutfor. Abdullah Al Faruk, younger son of slain Lutfor, filed a case with Wari Police Station the following day, accusing 11 unidentified people of committing the dreadful murders.
Leader of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh Tarikul Islam, alias Tarek and Mithu reportedly confessed to the killing of self-styled saint Lutfor Rahman Faruk and five others. Mithu confessed of committing the crime before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman, investigator Detective Branch Inspector Kazi Golam Kabir told journalists.
He earlier allegedly gave another confessional statement on October 25 in the case over the murder of former PDB chief Khizir Khan at his house in Badda. Mithu was arrested in this connection in Tangail on October 14.  He has also been shown arrested in the case over the murder of Islami Front leader Nurul Islam Farooqi. He had been arrested after the series of bombings across Bangladesh in 2005 but was set free on bail two years ago.
Investigating Officer (IO) of the case Kazi Golam Kabir of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police said "Investigation is going on. We've identified six operators of the outlawed Jamaa'tul Mujideen Bangladesh (JMB) behind the killing. Meanwhile, two attempts were made to arrest them, but failed." "We've extracted the information after interrogating four detained suspected JMB members on police remand, IO further said."
