DAULATPUR, KUSHTIA, Sept 30: A union parishad (UP) chairman in Daulatpur Upazila of the district was shot to death by miscreants in a broad daylight.

The incident took place in Philipnagar UP complex of the upazila at around 12 pm on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Noeem Uddin Sentu, 70, a resident of the area and chairman of Philipnagar UP.

It was known that he was a leader of BNP.

Police and local sources said that Noeem Uddin Sentu was working at his office at around 12 pm. At that time, a group of miscreants entered the UP complex, and shot him from behind, leaving the UP chairman dead on the spot. The miscreants then fled away when local people rushed there after hearing of the gunshots.

Being informed, police have recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Locals assumed that the UP chairman might have been killed over previous enmity, though the actual reason behind his death could not be known immediately.

Additional Superintend of Police in Kushtia Palash Kanti Nath and Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station Mahbubur Rahman visited the scene.
