Nine additional fatalities have been confirmed in the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, bringing the total number of reported deaths to 717.

In a public notice on Sept 24, the Health Services Division said the information regarding the dead had been collected from public and private hospitals, as well as district-level sources.

A preliminary list of the martyrs was published the same day on the health ministry's Health Services Division website (https://hsd.gov.bd/) and the Directorate General of Health Services website (https://www.dghs.gov.bd/).

Initially, the draft list published on that day included information about 708 individuals.

The Management Information System, or MIS, branch of the DGHS is responsible for compiling the list of those injured and dead during the movement.

Md Mizanur Rahman, director of the MIS branch told bdnews24.com on Sunday that the families of the nine victims contacted the Health Services Division after the public announcement, leading to their names being verified and added to the draft list.

Mizanur said, "The notice said if any names of those who died during the movement are missing from the list, family members, heirs, or representatives should contact the relevant district commissioner, civil surgeon, Upazila executive officer, or Upazila health and family planning officer with appropriate evidence."

They contacted us following our designated procedures. After confirmation, we added the names to the list," he added.

The Health Services Division said the new list will be accessible to the public until Oct 6.

The division urged anyone with comments, suggestions, or new information about the dead to contact their nearest government hospital during this period.

It also provided instructions on how to correct any inaccuracies:
"    Family members, heirs, or representatives of the martyr must register using their national identity card, birth certificate, and mobile number.

"    After registration, the martyr's information must be downloaded and printed.

"    Fill in any missing information on the printed document.

"    The relevant institution will assist in correcting the details if the hospital where the martyr received care or a nearby government hospital is approached with the completed information.

"    The responsible personnel will accept the completed form and update the information online.

"    The family can verify whether the information provided has been updated or corrected accurately by checking the website.

The health ministry formed a committee on Aug 15 to compile the list of dead and injured from July to August.

The committee is headed by Muhammad Humayun Kabir, former senior secretary of the Health Services Division.

On Sept 9, the health ministry released an initial report, listing at least 631 deaths and more than 19,200 injuries nationwide.

On Saturday, the central heath sub-committee said a total of 1,581 people have been reported dead across the country.    —bdnews24.com
