A Dhaka court on Tuesday (October 1) imposed travel ban on Bogra-2 former lawmaker Shariful Islam Jinnah and former cabinet secretary Kabir Bin Anwar in connection with corruption allegations against them.

Besides, the court imposed travel ban on Kabir Bin Anwar's wife Toufiqa Ahmed.
The ban was imposed on charges in connection with corruption cases against them.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court's senior Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Zaglul Hossain passed the order, allowing separate pleas filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier, the ACC investigation officer and Assistant Director Nurul Islam filed the plea to impose travel ban on Shariful Islam Jinnah, while the Deputy Director of the anti-graft body Md Zakaria pleaded to slap a travel embargo against Kabir Bin Anwar.

In his plea to the court, ACC assistant director Nurul Islam said investigation is going on against Jinnah on charge of embezzlement of huge amount of money in illegal ways. "The ACC filed a case against him on February 2, 2021 over the allegations that he had submitted false wealth information of Tk 69 lakh and failed to explain the income sources of Tk 1.60 crore."

"Jinnah may flee the country at any time. So, it is necessary to impose a travel ban on him," he told the court in his plea.

Besides, in another plea to the court, the investigation office stated that former cabinet secretary Kabir Bin Anwar may flee the country at any moment. So, it is necessary to impose travel ban on him.

The court also directed police to send the copies of the order to the Special Police Super (Immigration) for taking necessary steps.
