In a press release, the Directorate of Inter Service Public Relation (ISPR) said Saiful Islam Shyamol was taken to a nearby army camp for questioning as there was a number of allegations of extortion against him. He was taken for questioning at about 2:45pm and sent to his residence at about 4:45pm.

ISPR further said a case was filed against Shyamol at Ramna Police Station for possessing an illegal arm and he suffered imprisonment in that case. It is also learnt that he was arrested in another case in 2016.

However, Jatiya Nagorik Committee has strongly condemned the incident. The committee's spokesperson Samanta Sharmin said in a press release that Shyamol was picked up from his residence only on the basis of an allegation instead of any warrant of arrest.

Ward BNP leader Sajedul Islam Sumon became the victim of enforced disappearance in 2013. His sister Sanjida Islam Tuli has been seeking justice into his brother's enforced disappearance.
