Six murdered, 16 injured in seven districts

Six people have been murdered and at least 16 others injured in separate incidents in seven districts - Netrakona, Noakhali, Gaibandha, Gopalganj, Dinajpur, Pabna and Barguna, in four days.
NETRAKONA: A young man, who was injured in an attack carried out by his rivals over a dispute centring a mobile phone in Kendua Upazila of the district on Saturday, died at Rajarbag BMK Hospital in Dhaka on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Shakibul Islam, 28, son of Chan Miah, a resident of Paharpur Village under Ganda Union in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kendua Police Station (PS) Mizanur Rahman said that there has been a longstanding dispute between Shabikul and Tara Mia of Paharpur Village over a land. Local union parishad member Nurullah had been talking in favour of Tara Mia in this conflict. Around two years back, Shakibul lost a mobile phone which was later discovered in the possession of Tara Mia. Since then, Tara Mia had been keeping the phone to himself instead of returning it to Shabikul.
Following this, Shabikul locked in an altercation with one Nurullah at a local shop premises on Saturday night. After that, Nurullah along with his associates attacked on Shabikul and his friend Sharifullah, leaving both of them critically injured, said the OC.
Later on, locals rescued the duo and took them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Shabikul was then transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital from the MMCH at that night following the deterioration of his condition. 
Subsequently, he was taken to Rajarbag BMK Hospital for better treatment, where Shabikul succumbed to his injuries on Sunday night while undergoing treatment.
However, necessary steps would be taken in this connection, the OC added.
NOAKHALI: A man was beaten to death and three others were injured by mob in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place in Surzanarayanbahar area under Pashchim Charmatua Union in the upazila.
The deceased was identified as Md Abdus Sahid, 43, son of Momin Mollah, a resident of the aforesaid area.
The injured persons are: Md Jamal hossain, 42; Md Zabed, 28; and Md Rayad Hossain, 36. 
It was known that local people detained four people along with one pipe gun from a house in Surzanarayanbahar area, alleging their involvement with terrorist activities. The agitated crowd then beat up them mercilessly, leaving the four critically injured. 
On information, joint forces rescued them and handed them over to Sudharam Model PS. 
Later on, the injured Shahid was taken to Noakhali General Hospital at around 6 pm, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at around 7 pm. 
Police stated that the deceased Shahid was an accused in several cases.
Meanwhile, the Awami League (AL) claimed that Sahid was the vice-president of Pashchim Charmatua Union Unit of the AL dtating it in a Facebook post on their verified page. 
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing a youth beating Shahid's leg with a heavy stick. 
Students surrounded four alleged terrorists and beat them, leaving Shahid critically injured. He was, later, rescued and taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, said Sudharam Model PS OC Mir Jahidul Haque Rani.
However, legal action would be taken after investigation, the OC added.
GAIBANDHA: An elderly man was killed reportedly after being assaulted by his younger brother in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Momin Pradhan, 60, son of late Alam Uddin Pradhan, a resident of Nayansukh Village under the upazila.
According to local sources, a longstanding dispute had been going on between Abdul Momin Pradhan and his stepbrothers over the ownership of a piece of land. Despite being resolved, the stepbrothers engaged in a clash with him on Friday afternoon when they assaulted him with sticks. During the clash, Abdul Momin;s younger brother Amirul kicked him in the abdomen while his son tried to save him, he also beat up by the rivals.
Relatives rescued critical injured Momin and took him to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty physicians referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. 
Later on, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Saturday.
Sub-Inspector (SI) of Gaibandha Sadar PS confirmed the incident, saying that the deceased's son filed a murder case with the PS in this regard.
Efforts are going on to arrest those involved in the killing, the SI added.
GOPALGANJ: At least 10 people including women were injured in a clash between two groups over trivial matter in Sadar Upazila of the district on Saturday.
The incident took place in Khagail Village under the upazila in the morning.
It was known that one Dulal Molla kept his goat bound with a rope on the road in the village. Jahurul Molla fell while crossing the rope at that time. Following this, an altercation took place between Dulal Molla and Jahurul Molla. At one stage of the altercation, the supporters of both the men attacked each other equipped with indigenous weapons, which left at least 10 people injured.
Of the injured, Azizul Molla, Jahurul Molla, Binu Begum, Juba Molla and Rezan Molla were admitted to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
Gopalganj Sadar PS OC Mohammad Sajedur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that filing of a case is underway in this connection.
DINAJPUR: A man was beaten to death by some youths over theft allegation in Sadar Upazila of the district on Friday.
The incident took place in Kaugau Sahebganj Hatkhola Village under Shashora Union of the upazila in the evening.  
The deceased was identified as Touhidur Rahman, 40, son of late Mehrab Ali, a resident of the area. 
It was known that some youths from the area came to Touhidur's house and took him to another location, accusing him of stealing a net from the Atrai River. 
Later on, he was found next to his house in the evening with serious injuries, where he died a few minutes later.
There were multiple injury marks on his body and legs.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Dinajpur Kotwali PS OC Farid Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and legal action would be taken in this regard.
SANTHIA, PABNA: A farmer was killed and three others were injured in a clash over land dispute in Santhia Upazila of the district on Friday noon.
The incident took place in Hasanpur Village under Khetupara Union of the upazila at around 2 pm.
The deceased was identified as Selim alias Salim Molla, 40, son of Habibar Molla, a resident of the village. 
Police and local sources said that Habibar Molla had a dispute over the ownership of a piece of land with Sharik Sattar of the area for long. At around 2 pm on Friday, Kalam and Nizam, sons of Sattar, were cutting bamboo in the disputed land. At that time, Salim Molla protested, which agitated his rivals. Then, Kalam and Nizam beat up Salim, leaving him dead on the spot. Three other persons were injured as they came forward to save Salim Molla. 
Being informed, police recovered the body of the deceased and sent it to Pabna Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
However, the law enforcers also detained three people including Kalam and Nizam in connection with the incident.
Santhia PS OC (Investigation) Abdul Latif confirmed the matter, adding that a murder case was filed with the PS and legal action would be taken in this regard.
AMTALI, BARGUNA: A Bikash trader was hacked to death by miscreants in Amtali Upazila of the district on Thursday night. 
The incident took place in a paddy field in Kalagasi Village under Gulishakhali Union of the upazila at around 10:30 pm.
The deceased was identified as Abul Kashem, 23, son of Md Nur Uddin, a resident of the area. 
It was known that Abul Kashem had several businesses in Kolagasia Bazar including Bikash, Flexiload and electronic products. On Thursday night, some miscreants hacked him indiscriminately near his house after taking the money he had while returning home from the market. He was critically injured at that time.
Later on, locals rescued him and took him to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared the trader dead. 
Being informed, police recovered the body.
Amtali PS OC Kazi Shawkhat Hossain Tapu confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are trying to identify and detain those involved in the killing.
